Coquette Makeup

Think ribbons, lace trims, braids, and everything pink.

Coquette pink makeup look

We know, we know, we are a little tad late on this trend. But we finally caved, and we are here to convince you why you should too.

Coquette (French) :

Initially a derogatory name for a flirtatious woman. Forward a few hundred years, in today’s modern cultural context; ‘Coquette Aesthetics’ is merely a style. Many have associated this style with 18th & 19th centuries’ fashion with the hair braids, others think it is giving early 2010s Tumblrcore vibes. Either way, we think it is romantic, flirty, and cute. Ahead, we are diving into how this trend took off, the core elements of this look and sharing some of our favorite inspiration and products to perfect the look.

We didn’t see this coming, but here we are- turning to TIKTOK for beauty hacks and trends. It is literally the database of all things beauty- sparking countless beauty trends from over-the-top ‘Euphoria’ makeup to brRRrrr ‘Cold Girl’ makeup and more. There seems to be a new viral beauty trend trending every week on Tiktok. Coquette makeup blew up on this platform too- with a combined views of over 7.7billion on the platform. And understandingly so, with this trend having borrowed aspects of established trends of #cottagecore #lolita and #oldmoney aesthetics- classic favorites of TIKTOKers.

Fuel: 2023's Take on Feminism

Fuel: 2023's Take on Feminism

At first look, this trend seems to be another kink that got spun off in a modern-day context, glazing everything with a pink ribbon filter- rewinding the progress (if any) we have made in achieving genders equality over the years. The ribbons, pearls, and pink lace dresses seemed to reinforce outdated stereotypes (we fought so hard to break out of) about how girls should dress and act, raising concerns about the impact on our perceptions of modern-day femininity. Yet, if you really look past the surface and pink filters, this trend is in fact- about celebrating and empowering femininity. It encourages us to embrace and highlight the unique qualities and strengths that make us women. Despite initial reservations, this trend is anything but backward, one that encourages us to embrace our femininity and be proud of who we are. Nothing wrong in wanting to act pretty and be girly.

RULE (1) : THINK PINK

RULE (1) : THINK PINK

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out how rooted in pink this trend is, because it is that obvious. While there are a thousand ways to interpret this trend, they are all born from the same color scheme- P-I-N-K! opt for pink or mauvy shades, and for the upcoming warmer months peachy-pink should do the trick.

RULE (2) : BLUSH FLUSH

RULE (2) : BLUSH FLUSH

Overly done blush is the key to mastering this look.

Blush should be applied generously and boldly.

Swipe it across your cheeks and nose. And yes, in pink, duh?

RULE (3) : DEWY POUT

RULE (3) : DEWY POUT

Pink lip oil and makeup looksOh, flirty you.
But don't worry you can and will get away with everything with these perfectly pink, plump lips-made possible with these ever so lightweight and shiny (but not oily) glosses.
Call me biased, but I couldn't resist including this one on the list. It's a personal favorite of mine! A perfect combination of moisturization and a subtle hint of color. Its lightweight and non-sticky formula makes it an absolute delight to wear.

Flower Power, Girl Power

Flower Power, Girl Power

Feminism and anything pink are NOT mutually exclusive. You can be a feminist and likes pink. You can be both. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Feminism comes in all shapes and forms. It comes in loud waves of ‘Free The Nipple’ movement, it also comes in subtle forms of pink ribbons and overly done blush fashion. There is nothing wrong or shameful about wanting to embrace femininity in its purest and rawest form.
